Thai Death Market

Trains attract hawkers and many markets are located nearby the railways. A singular bazaar in Thailand is different because the goods are literally on top of the train rails. When the metallic whistle announces the train, the vendors remove, fast and calmly, the awnings and the baskets with bananas or fish. The train passes by pretty close to the vendors, clients and tourists leaning against the stalls. This peculiar bazaar is located in Maeklong city, 70 kilometers south of Bangkok. To reach this “Death Market”, as many locals call it, you can take a van from Victory Monument in the Thai capital. However, there is a more romantic three hours trip, through paddy fields, a river and several villages. In this case, you must take a train in Wongwien Yai station in Thonburi. Later, you need to change to another train and cross the river in a small boat. All the trip costs 25 baht (almost one US dollar or little more than 50 cents of euro)
